DEC’s VAXft 3000 fault-tolerant MicroVAX, launched only in February, has clearly not set the world alight, and the company has slashed prices on the base Model 310 in the US by 27% to $168,000 – including the installation and warranty charges that added $31,000 to the original price. The company also came out with a low-cost server version of the multi-user machine, at $132,000 with 32Mb and duplexed 381Mb disks, and admitted to Electronic News that many users were unhappy at paying the full system price when all they wanted was a server. A 1Gb disk is coming.
