Following the announcement from Digital Equipment Corp on its multimillion dollar push in the US personal computer market (CI No 1,837), DEC has new prices in Britain with reductions of up to 53% on 80386 machines: for example an entry-level 16MHz DECpc 316 is off 52% at UKP1,200 for system unit, 3Mb RAM, 3.5 floppy, 40Mb hard drive, 14 VGA monitor, keyboard, mouse; the 20MHz DECpc 320 with 4Mb RAM, 16Kb cache and 100Mb hard disk is off 47% at UKP1,800; the 33MHz DECpc 333 with 80387 maths chip, 120Mb hard disk, 4Mb RAM, is down 40% to UKP2,500; DEC hopes to have new prices on 80486 machines by the end of the month; Dell Computer Corp has also slashed UK prices on its personal computers with the Dell System 325P with 1Mb RAM, 50Mb hard disk and colour VGA cut 23% to UKP1,150, and the System 450SE with 4Mb of memory, 320Mb hard drive and colour VGA reduced 13% at UKP5,800.
