Digital Equipment Corp has signed outsourcing service agreements with Dow Chemical Co, GE Aircraft Engines and Perkin-Elmer. The combined contracts total more than $165 million, although individual contract values were not disclosed. At Dow, DEC is providing round-the-clock, custom telephone support for 35,000 users in North America, Europe and Asia, and is expanding help desk services it has delivered since last year. GE Aircraft Engines, headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, has chosen DEC Worldwide Services to manage and support its information technology infrastructure for Oracle Applications, providing service to more than 10,000 users. Norwalk, Connecticut-based Perkin-Elmer is looking to DEC for design, implementation, and ongoing operational support for a worldwide rollout of SAP R/3. DEC is to manage 13 Hewlett-Packard Co UNIX-based systems with SAP R/3 application modules, Oracle database software, EMC disk arrays, the connecting local area network, and help desk support for data center personnel.
