Digital Equipment Corp points out in response to our story yesterday about the Alpha technology used in the Oscar-nominated film Titanic (CI No 3,344), that Digital Domain Inc did at least use four quad-processor AlphaServer 4100 RenderTower systems running 64-bit Digital Unix for the fim’s special effects. It also says that software companies in the entertainment world are porting their software over to Digital Unix and Windows NT operating systems running on Alpha, and maintains that it is making serious inroads into a business dominated by Silicon Graphics Inc for some time. Titanic, it says, is just the tip if the iceberg.
