DEC has dramatically increased its rate of new product announcements of late, and this week, the company is expected to come out with new models at the bottom end of the VAX 8000 line. There is expected to be a replacement for the bottom-end 8200 and 8300 machines – re-engineered versions of the processor for better performance, most likely, and further emphasis on the VAXBI Bus Interface. A souped-up version of the 8500, dubbed the 8530 and offering 30% better price-performance, is also expected to appear.
