In the Netherlands, Digital Equipment Enterprise BV, formerly the Dutch office systems operations of Philips Information Systems, has finally decided to leave its old Philips premises in the Hague, and is moving its 350 employees up the road to Rotterdam – where, according to a statement from the company, the new premises have a modern, high-tech look Digital can better identify itself with. The first phase of the move is to start in July, and Digital says that all employees affected will receive travel expenses, and it is looking into the possibility of laying on group transport facilities. There is little doubt that DEC’s European acquisitions – which also include the former Mannesmann-Kienzle in Germany, will be beneficial in the medium term, but in the short term they are seen to be contributing little but more red ink.
