Digital Equipment Corp is starting to show off the new generation of clustering software, codenamed Galaxy (CI No 3,128), which as well as supporting the company’s still somewhat proprietary OpenVMS operating system will also support Microsoft Corp’s Windows NT based servers in the same cluster. Attendees at the recent DEC Users Society conference held in Cincinnati were shown demonstrations of partitioned clustering. The new technology is expected to emerge into the commercial light of day some time next Spring.
