DEC PROMISES WOLFPACK NT CLUSTERS THIS YEAR

Following the announcement of its new Unix clustering products (CI No 3,257), DEC says that before year-end it will begin deliveries of eight-way AlphaServers running Windows NT 4.0 clustered using Microsoft Corp’s Wolfpack Cluster Server plus some of its own additions. It figures they’ll play at the low-end of the market, the sweet spot for its Unix-based TruCluster systems being three or four node configurations with six or eight processors per node. Until now DEC’s been clustering NT AlphaServers with some home grown software.
