The language of the computer industry is rapidly losing its tenuous hold on reality, and soon computer people will be unable to talk in terms that your mother could understand: Digital Equipment Corp and Microsoft Corp signed an agreement naming Digital as a worldwide Authorized Support Center in the Microsoft Solution Provider Program it says here, and said Mum would be a little bemused at authorised support centre and totally nonplussed at solution provider programme, and would likely think it was perhaps something that took place behind closed doors in a doctor’s surgery; DEC says that the agreement gives its 29 support centres in 100 countries – quite an achievement, that, too – the clearance to deal directly with Microsoft’s worldwide units and to provide front line support services for corporate customers, as well as installation and start-up services, user support services, help desk support services and training on Microsoft’s products.
