Microsoft Corp confirmed yesterday it plans a joint project with Digital Equipment Corp and MCI Communications Corp. Network services will be marketed by MCI through its recently announced Enterprise Network Solutions initiative, and will initially consist of DEC client-server products and services, and components of Microsoft’s BackOffice software suite, including its Exchange Server, Internet Information Server, and Windows NT Server. Consulting and implementation support will be provided by MCI’s SHL Systemhouse subsidiary. Earlier this year, MCI and Microsoft agreed to market each other’s products, including Microsoft Network, to business and residential customers worldwide, and DEC and Microsoft have of course been as close as this ever since Windows NT was launched. The primary target of the new tie-up is seen as being the AT&T Corp-IBM Corp-Netscape Communications Corp alliance.
