Parties interested in the future of National Semiconductor Corp’s National Advanced Systems IBMulator remarketing unit, which is believed to be for sale (CI No 1,048) are putting it about that DEC is among the companies talking about the business. It seems highly unlikely that DEC would want to market IBM-compatible mainframes, but it may well be interested in the company’s Cross Systems Series and 3711 Gateway Connectivity Package, designed to link IBM mainframes under MVS to DEC VAX/VMS systems (CI No 829), said to be a $50m-a-year business.
