Digital Equipment Corp has introduced some new additions to its workstation range, and claims they outstrip all of its competitors. The new Digital Ultimate Workstation 533a2 and 533au2 are high-end dual processor Alpha machines targeted at high end technical users. The workstations run on Digital Unix 4.0 or Windows NT and DEC claims they are particularly suited for applications that involve design analysis, scientific visualization, simulation and high performance technical computing applications. DEC claims the new workstations outperform offerings from competitors including Sun Microsystems Inc, Hewlett-Packard Co, IBM Corp and Silicon Graphics Inc. Users can employ multiple processors to increase throughput, with support of up to 2Gb Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory and 63Gb of internal storage.
