Digital Equipment Corp claims it has sold its new version of CICS/6000, implemented by IBM Corp for the Alpha architecture and announced as part of the recent TurboLaser product launch, to at least 10 customers, including financial institutions and for an airline reservation system in the US. CICS is about re-hosting applications from the mainframe onto lower cost systems, says DEC and so it will not affect DEC’s other transaction processing offerings, which include its own ACMS proprietary system alongside Tuxedo and Encina. Anyway, says DEC much of the functionality traditionally handled by transaction processing monitors is now finding its way into the databases themselves.
