DEC has extended its IBM Systems Network Architecture connectivity support downwards on the VAX minicomputer range, enabling the MicroVAX 2000 to be integrated directly into an SNA network. This means that DEC, by enhancing its low volume single system SNA link VMS/SNA software with Version 1.2, can offer a UKP10,000 entry-level VAX solution in multi-vendor environments. Precise dates for the availability of the synchronous communications interface will be made later this year. DEC has also announced support for IBM VM and DOS/VSE operating systems it already supports MVS. DEC has extended its electronic mail capabilities with the VAX Message Router/P Gateway, which allows IBM Profs electronic mail and CMS Notes users to connect to DEC’s Mailbus to exchange messages with DEC’s electronic mail users. Users of the Profs Professional Office System will be able to send messages to users of DEC’s All-In-1 office automation product as if they were other Profs users. The price for this Gateway product is from UKP5,500 for a MicroVAX II to around UKP32,000 for the present top-end VAX 8800. It will be available next month.
