DEC DID NOT JOIN THE OSI/NETWORK MANAGEMENT FORUM

By CBR Staff Writer

Why hadn’t DEC, with its commitment to open standards, joined the OSI/Network Management Forum? came the hectoring cries at yesterday’s bash: Paul Evans, DEC’s group manager for networks marketing, defended DEC’s record in the field of open systems network management in face of its abstention from the Forum, claiming that the level of multi-vendor management capability offered in DECnet is as good as any and that the option of joining the Forum at a later date is still under review; Hilary Atherton, networks and communications marketing manager chimed in with the comment that the objectives first mooted by the nascent Forum had been insignificant and not nearly as mature as their recent pronouncements.
