Digital Equipment Corp chief financial officer Vincent Mullarkey warns that he is increasingly concerned about the effect of the strong dollar on the company’s fiscal fourth quarter results. He has not modified his guidance about the currency impact for the current – third – quarter, but I’m concerned more about the June quarter, he said. The company told Reuter that it advised analysts in January that it expected a bottom line impact of about $30m in the third quarter from the rising dollar. Mullarkey also told the Goldman Sachs & Co conference that he expects the DEC semiconductor operations to break even some time in its fiscal 1998.
