DEC BACK IN TELEVISION ADVERTISING

By CBR Staff Writer

DEC has turned its back on television advertising over the past three years, but the company is back with a bang, to the accompaniment of sky high eyebrows in high-brow quarters: the company is underwriting and has agreed to promote one of those educational blockbusters on scientific discovery, entitled The Infinite Voyage, which is to be made by public service television station WQED in Pittsburgh (now come on, forget W C Fields – if your environment is unrelenting iron and steel and mini-replicas of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, what better place to go into the TV studio, shut out the city and create something uplifting) which will syndicate it over the non-profit Public Broadcasting System; so what, you may say, why the eye-brows? Well DEC plans to repeat the thing just a few days later on one of the commercial stations in each of 12 major cities – this time interspersed with four lengthy commercials – say it DEClarations.
