German mobile phone operator Debitel Kommunikationstechnik GmbH & Co. KG has selected the Twister e-commerce platform from software vendor Brokat AG to enable retailers to order handsets over the internet. Stuttgart-based Brokat declined to reveal the value of the contract, but said it represented an important development for the company, whose products have until now been sold only to financial institutions. This background, which has meant that Twister has a lot of in-built security functions, is what appealed to the Debitel, as the information passed back to the operator from retailers includes sensitive data such as credit card numbers.
