Debis Systemhaus GmbH, one of five divisions of Daimler-Benz InterServices (debis) AG, will be able to offer computer services in the US once the merger of Daimler-Benz with Chrysler is finalized. The deal is expected to go through next Tuesday. Debis was previously barred from US markets by the Bank Holding Act, which prohibits foreign banks from operating commercial companies in the States. Deutsche Bank AG owns more than 25% of Daimler. The merger will reduce this share and allow Systemhaus to bid for contracts in the US for the first time. Systemhaus, after the Chrysler merger, will also begin announcing interim results in 1999. Chrysler is currently supported by an internal IT group and the company has made no announcements so far over how the IT systems will be integrated. Systemhaus does expect, however, to be bidding for any work from the merger and it would seem to be an ideal way to enter the American market.
