David Systems Inc, Sunnyvale, California has a hand-held Pair Scanner for diagnosing and troubleshooting 10Base-T, twisted pair and coaxial cabling systems, using a radar-like principle to find the location of the fault in the cable in that a very short pulse is sent down the line; when a fault or the end of the cable is detected, the pulse bounces back over distances from 20 to 5,000 feet; it costs $2,500.
