DataImage Inc, headquartered in Glastonbury, Connecticut has introduced the DatWriter-Image system for electronic data management: all of the DatWriter products are based on Sony Corp’s SDT-1000/2000 tape drive, and DatWriter-Image incorporates digital audio tape drives for the management of electronic data and images; it stores, indexes and retrieves both computer-based data and images on a data cartridge, and using same indexing procedure, the system electronically links ASCII and raster-based information under the same search field on a single data cartridge; it has 2Gb of storage capacity and a four-byte overhead requirement for the indexing of records and reports; the cartridge is shipping now and costs $6,000 including the Sony SDT-1000 tape drive with device driver software, a SCSI host adaptor with cable, the Dynamic Link Libraries for MS Windows 3.0, Spinnaker Plus software and the DatWriter imaging software package; options include Spinnaker Personal Access for $200 and an external cabinet that costs around $375.
