Datel Technology Ltd has been contracted to provide information management systems for the Jubilee Line extension of the London Underground, by GEC Plessey Telecommunications Co Ltd’s Strategic Communications Networks. The communications system for the entire extension is valued at UKP60m. Datel has built a UKP500,000 development centre at its headquarters in Preston, Lancashire to work on the project, which currently employs 30 software engineers; this will rise to 56. Datel will provide real-time information management systems at the 10 new stations and a central information management system at a depot in Neasden, North London. The stations’ system will comprise two Encore Computer Corp 91 series computers in a hot stand-by configuration, two three-processor Sun Microsystems Inc Sparcstations, an administration workstation and Supervisory Control and data acquisition equipment. Datel has already demonstrated the hot stand-by capability and graphical user interface on the Sparcstation; it plans displays of the systems and provides a map of the station’s locale and the station’s signalling system.
