The Canada-based company, which employs 400 people, will expand into Samoa, Tonga, and Vanuatu following strong growth in recent quarters. Net profit rose 36% to $322,133, on revenue that increased 55% to $10.9 million during the three months to June 30.
In Samoa, Datec has opened a technology center, where it has already won a key contract with IBM Global Services to run the IT system for Westpac Bank [WBK] in Samoa, as part of IBM GS’s $2.3 billion, 10-year outsourcing deal with Westpac, signed in October 2000.
Datec has restructured the IT and logistics operations of Westpac in the region, and has since won new deals with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labor, Samoa Senior Citizens Bureau, Samoa Ministry of Health, Samoa National Provident Fund, and a subcontract for Hewlett-Packard [HPQ] on its project with ANZ Bank Samoa [ANZ].
In Tonga, Datec has opened an Oracle-certified IT training center, and in Vanuatu, the company is running the IT system of Westpac, as well as other projects for National Provident Fund, the Vanuatuan Government, and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia.
