The business division of Thorn EMI Datasolve, SMB Business Software, has won a contract to install its accounting software in ICL’s 40%-owned Leningrad company, Marine Computer Systems. ICL, Morflot, and Leningrad City Council established the company last year (CI No 1,158), and has recently begun assembly of its 8086 and 80286-based DRS 30,40, and 50 personal computers (CI No 1,383). This order follows a 1987 agreement between SMB and ICL which gave ICL full marketing rights in Africa to SMB’s Plus accounting software. Marine Computers are to use SMB’s sales and purchase ledgers, invoicing and sales analysis, and inventory control modules. The order is said to be the first UK accounting system to be installed in the Soviet Union.
