Datapoint Corp, San Antonio, Texas, Communications Solutions Inc, San Jose, and the US end of Thomson of France’s TITN unit in Hayward, California have teamed to do a communications gateway for Datapoint’s ARC local area network, based on Datapoint’s new Vista-Gate network communications server. Announced yesterday in Rome, the gateway will provide compatibility with IBM’s Systems Network Architecture and ISO Open Systems Interconnection and serve as a platform for further advanced protocol support. Vista-Gate provides simultaneous, concurrent support of any combination of 3278, 3287, 3777 Remote Job Entry, IBM Document Interchange Architecture and LU 6.2 services over one SDLC or X25 link. With Datapoint’s Vista-View multi-tasking, multi-windowing interface, several users may each run up to eight sessions from a single workstation – providing each user with access to multiple 3270, 3770 and IBM host DisOSS/370 sessions, all running concurrently on their own workstation. In its initial release, Vista-Gate will support both SDLC (leased line, manual dial, switched, CCITT V.25 bis automatic dial) and X25 public and private packet switched networks. No prices were given.
