DATAMIRROR UPS ITS STAKE IN DATABAHN TO 40%

By CBR Staff Writer

DataMirror Corp, Toronto-based provider of data transformation and replication software, said it has upped its stake in DataBahn Inc, a developer of Java SQL database technology. DataMirror exercised a warrant to acquire 2.07 million Series B shares of DataBahn, increasing its position in the San Mateo, California company to roughly 40% on a fully diluted basis. DataBahn says it has developed an embedded dynamic footprint relational database written completely in Java and deployable on multiple platforms, including small footprint embedded devices, mobile clients and Java application servers. The company claims that with a certain degree of customization, the database can be deployed in as little as 300KB of memory. Back in March, DataMirror made an initial capital investment and signed a co-development agreement with DataBahn to embed its replication technology into the DataBahn database, allowing data sharing between DataBahn and corporate database systems. As a result of that tie-up, DataMirror has developed a beta version of its Transformation Server product that enables transparent replication to DataBahn databases from DB/2, Sybase, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server databases on IBM AS/400, Unix, and Windows NT-based systems.
