DataDirect is the Progress division focused on data connectivity and mainframe integration. It said the OpenAccess software development kit enables ISVs or IT departments to create and embed SQL interfaces to their proprietary applications and data formats, so they can then be used with the likes of Crystal Decisions, Cognos, Microstrategy, and Actuate tools.

The OpenAccess SDK also enables software developers to integrate new applications with proprietary or legacy data sources. With the addition of the OpenAccess toolkit to the DataDirect product family, it said DataDirect customers can now use SQL to access everything from relational databases, to mainframe databases and proprietary file formats and applications.

DataDirect said its products connect ISV and other customers’ applications to a wide range of data sources using standards-based interfaces such as ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, XQuery, and SOAP. It claims over 300 leading ISVs and thousands of enterprises are customers.
