The company reported net income for the three months to May 31 up 15% at $990m, on revenue that was up 9% at $3.1bn. Software revenue was up 12% at $2.5bn, while services revenue was down 4% at $558m.

New licenses of the company’s database software, 8i, was up 15% at $1.1bn, more than enough to cancel out a 6% dip in licenses of its other software, which provided $231m of the total revenue.

Operating income was $1.4bn in the fourth quarter and $3.9bn for the full year, said Oracle CFO, Jeff Henley. That’s the best operating profit we’ve ever delivered; even better than our best year during the internet bubble.
