Marlborough, Massachusetts-based Data Translation Inc’s Multimedia Group has announced Media 100 Version 2.0 with All-On-One Mastering. It simplifies post-production, lowers storage costs, and brings broadcast-level performance to the desktop, the firm says. In draft mode, users can rough-cut video with non-linear speed and try out graphics, effects, and mix CD-quality tracks. Users can then move to the on-line mastering mode for final programme assembly, enabling them to redigitise to capture only the footage used in the final program at quality. The quality on-line material replaces the large quantity of draft material, so more disks don’t have to be added. It intelligently interacts with the user to optimise disk capacity and video quality settings. Again, only material required for final programme assembly needs to be recaptured and redigitising is a real-time process. In on-line mastering mode, users make final edit and titling adjustments, complete their digital effects, and finish mixing the audio. Media 100 has been designed from the ground up to support essentially lossless compression ratios as low as 4:1 for results that match the output quality of broadcast digital tape.
