Marlborough, Massachusetts-based Data Translation Inc has announced plans to add support for the Power Macintosh to its Media 100 digital video production system. Media 100 consists of two NuBus boards and video production software compatible with Apple’s System 7 and QuickTime software. It enables users to digitise analogue video and audio, store it in a Macintosh, edit a complete video programme using a picture-based interface, and record the finished programme back onto videotape, air or display. It’s designed for corporate and industrial video production, animation, and multimedia authoring. The system’s video output meets NTSC and PAL standards, and enables four tracks of CD-quality audio to be simultaneously mixed in real time. Now Data Translation plans to write a native versions of Media 100 and its software options, written specifically for the Power Macintosh, and taking advantage of the enhanced performance the new Macintosh offers. But the company says that availability, upgrades and price (the current version sells for $12,000) won’t be announced until later this year.
