DATA GENERAL TO LAUNCH ITS INFORMATION SERVER

By CBR Staff Writer

Data General Corp’s Information Server will be announced at the ISPCon trade show in San Francisco at the end of August, and it will ship soon after – a little later than the mid-year release the company had originally planned for. The Information Server is an appliance aimed at Internet service providers, dedicated purely and simply to serving Web pages. It looks like it will be priced at under $10,000. Meanwhile the company’s Thiin Server – a skinny server for thin clients and network computers using wireless communications – is even further out. Data General had hoped it would go into beta testing in the first quarter of this year, but now it looks more like being 1998.
