Data General Corp now says that it will offer a complete family of AViiON servers based on Intel Corp’s Pentium Pro processors beginning early in 1996, but insists that they will complement the current AViiON servers, running either the DG/UX enterprise operating system or Windows NT Server, and will also support all the 15,000 existing AViiON applications. The building blocks will be SHV server boards with up to four Pentium Pros on each rather than CPU chips; there will also be deskside AViiON servers with single or dual Pentium Pro processor chips.
