Keeping faith with its Eclipse MV users despite its welter of new Unix machines, Data General Corp yesterday launched an Eclipse MV/30000 multiprocessor, bringing high-end performance and high-availability features to the mid-range of the MV/Family. As with the MV/5500 DC, MV/9500 and MV/3500 DC, the new machine is based on a single-chip, custom CMOS microprocessor designed by Data General and made in Japan by Hitachi Ltd. The first machine from Data General to go beyond two processors, the MV/30000 runs the AOS/VS II operating system and has one to four processors, delivering 19 MIPS fully configured. With one 16Mb CPU, it is from $120,000, now.
