Data General says it has secured agreements from 15 software developers to do versions of their products for the Motorola 88000-based Aviion workstation range (CI No 1,224). The agreements include joint marketing agreements with five database and applications generation language companies: Oracle Corp, Cybertek Software Inc, Informix Software Inc, Progress Software Corp and Relational Technology Inc. Other products include the MCBA Classic accounting package, Mathematica from Wolfram Research Inc, and various system software tools and languages, including the SoftPC MS-DOS emulation software from Phoenix Technologies Ltd, which doesn’t seem to be going as well as Phoenix had been expecting – perhaps there are already too many acceptable Unix alternatives to the most popular MS-DOS programs.
