Data General Corp’s second-quarter results soundly beat Wall Street estimates as the company reported net income up 119% at $13.8m on revenue up 16% at $389.3m. Earnings per share for the quarter rose 113% to $0.32, while analysts were expecting $0.27. The company says continuing sales growth of its Intel-based, Windows NT-running Aviion servers (up 10%) and its Clariion storage lines (up 38%) are responsible for the rosy results. Also during the quarter, Data General began shipping the first products from its Numaliine Intel-based server family to strategic partners. The products will be formally introduced later this spring. For the half-year, net income grew 120% to $24.2m on revenue up 11% at $541.8m. Earnings per share rose 111% to $0.57.
