DATA GENERAL CORP COMMENTS ON FIGURES

By CBR Staff Writer

Commenting on dismal figures (page five), Data General Corp says product revenues in Europe in the latest first quarter were 30% lower than in both the prior and year-ago quarters, and that lower volume and a shift in product mix resulted in particularly low margins on equipment sales during the quarter; total revenues in its AViiON product line were higher than in both the prior and year-ago quarters, with encouraging results in its AV 9500 systems; it now claims a customer base of more than 23,000 AViiON installations, worth over $1,000m; cash and marketable securities were $168m at the end of the quarter compared with $192m in September.
