Keeping faith with its Eclipse MV 32-bit mini users, Westborough, Massachusetts-based Data General Corp has added three new models – MV/5600 DC, MV/9300 and MV/9600, using an enhanced version of the company’s CMOS implementation of the MV processor. The 5600, rated at 7 MIPS, is the most powerful in the low-end line: it has Ethernet port, dual SCSI, six input-output slots, and takes up to 128Mb memory, and 13Gb disk. Prices start at $55,000. The rack mount MV/9300 is the entry to the mid-range, delivering 3 MIPS, taking 128Mb memory and 77Gb disk at from $35,000.Board-level upgrades from earlier models start at $22,000. The MV/9600 is also rated at 7 MIPS and has the same memory and disk capacity; it is from $72,000. On the software front, it launched AOS/VS II TCP/IP 1.10 and OpenMAC for MV/Systems to enhance the MVs’ capabilities as servers. OpenMac is the first such offering from Data General and enables Apple Computer Inc Macintosh computers to be integrated into the MV world. It enables MVs to support the Apple Data Access Language. TCP/IP now includes Simple Network Management Protocol, Token Ring and X25 support.
