XtremeData unveils new database appliance

To provide unrestricted access through SQL and execute queries

By CBR Staff Writer

XtremeData has released dbX, a new database appliance designed for the unconstrained analysis and exploration of data sets. It is an integrated platform and features patented SQL in Silicon hardware acceleration.

XtremeData said that the new database appliance provides unrestricted access through SQL, executes queries, and is scalable to Petabytes. The new database appliance allows BI analysts to answer business questions, unhindered by system management, data placement, or performance tuning issues.

Reportedly, the new database appliance incorporates all the components of an analysis system: storage, computing, interconnect network and database engine. This single-vendor system is expected to eliminate the labour costs incurred in configuration, integration, performance tuning and in the implementation of the work-arounds.

The company said that the new database appliance features: direct-attached distributed storage, interconnect network (InfiniBand), patented ‘SQL in silicon’ technology, and a MPP database engine.

Ravi Chandran, CEO of XtremeData, said: On a pre-release version, our systems were delivered for on-site customer evaluations, where the data was loaded and queries executed out-of-the-box, without requiring indexes or other optimisations. The dbX system has consistently out-performed existing systems on sets of large and complex queries.
