Whirlpool taps IBM Watson cognitive computing for smart homes

News: The move will enable Whirlpool to further improve performance and optimise supply chain.

By CBR Staff Writer

Home appliances maker Whirlpool is tapping IBM Watson’s cognitive intelligence for its connected home products.

Whirlpool will use IBM Watson services, including cognitive analytics, data management and protection capabilities to better serve its consumers.

The company is also using IBM Cloud Business Solutions to generate real-time data and insights from appliances.

The collaboration with IBM will help Whirlpool to further enhance performance, optimise supply chain and improve service delivery.

Whirlpool connected appliances general manager Laurent Borne said: "Saving energy and water, caring for their families through mobile efficiencies – these are the benefits we’re hoping to bring to consumers.

"IBM’s expertise in data storage, and cloud computing ensures we’ll continue to bring our consumers relevant technologies in the future, as well as deliver new, innovative, and distinctive experiences for the consumer."

Apart from Whirlpool, IBM Watson is also powering SoftBank Robotics’ Pepper robots to extend the ways in which customers experience cognitive computing.
