Western Digital launches 8TB NAS server

Incorporates 2TB Caviar Green drive into WD ShareSpace's flexible four-bay design

By CBR Staff Writer

Storage company Western Digital has announced the expansion of its WD ShareSpace network storage systems with a new 8TB NAS server offering faster transfer speeds and DLNA1 media streaming capabilities.

The company said it has incorporated its 2TB Caviar Green drive into WD ShareSpace’s flexible four-bay design, creating 8TB storage in a small footprint. The 2TB Caviar Green drive is based on its 500 GB/platter technology with 32 MB cache.

WD said WD Anywhere Backup software provides automatic and continuous protection to the NAS server. Other features include GigE connectivity with data transfer rates up to 1 Gbps, RAID capabilities for data protection and speed, an email alert system, Microsoft Active Directory support, MioNet remote web access service, and WD GreenPower technology.

Jim Welsh, senior vice president and general manager at WD, said: WD ShareSpace has become a popular choice among small business owners. By doubling capacity and increasing transfer speeds, the new 8TB WD ShareSpace offers more value to small business users. Digital media enthusiasts will appreciate the new streaming support that lets them easily stream to PCs, Macs, and game consoles.
