WD to start hard drive manufacturing in Brazil

Partners with local Brazilian electronics manufacturing provider, to perform manufacturing operations and fulfillment services

By CBR Staff Writer

Hard drives provider WD has announced that it will begin hard drive manufacturing operations in Brazil, to meet customer demand

The company said that it will be partnering with Digitron, a local Brazilian electronics manufacturing provider, to perform manufacturing operations and fulfillment services.

WD is utilising Digitron’s notebook PC assembly and motherboard manufacturing plant in the Manaus Free Trade Zone for its products.

The company expects this venture to produce an estimated $175m worth of hard drives in its first year of operation and at least 50 new jobs in the region

WD chief operating officer Tim Leyden said, the strategic decision to expand their global manufacturing operations into Brazil positions WD to more efficiently meet growing customer demand as they invest in the development of this key market.

"Continued investments in large high-growth markets like Brazil, markets with developing infrastructures, strong underlying economics and an important customer base, will further solidify WD’s industry leadership," Leyden said.
