Vodafone, Decho team up to deliver PC backup services

Offers access to PC's digital files over fixed and mobile broadband connections

By CBR Staff Writer

Vodafone has formed a strategic partnership with Decho, a wholly owned subsidiary of EMC, to develop a range of cloud-based services for both business customers and consumers.

According to Vodafone, the PC backup will enable customers to back up work-related or personal digital content from their computer to a remotely hosted site. It allows customers to access their digital content even if their primary device is lost, stolen or otherwise unavailable.

Vodafone said that the PC backup capabilities join its PC and mobile anti-virus protection in a suite which makes secure for customers to use fixed and mobile broadband services to access, organise, protect and share digital content. Customers will be able to use the PC backup over both fixed and mobile broadband connections through the web browser of desktop PCs, laptops, and netbooks.

The service is expected to be introduced across a number of Vodafone’s major European markets throughout the remainder of this calendar year and builds upon the Mozy online backup service operated by Decho.

Harel Kodesh, CEO of Decho Corporation, said: The explosive growth in both business and consumer information is driving demand for new personal cloud services to help people protect, organise and enrich their most valuable information. Building on the proven Mozy online backup service will differentiate Vodafone’s services and make it easier for millions of people to access and manage the information they need to do their job or run their lives each day.
