Verbatim unveils new line of USB drives

Includes support for Windows ReadyBoost

By CBR Staff Writer

Verbatim Americas, a provider of data storage products, has unveiled new Tuff-’N’-Tiny family of portable USB drives with capacities of 4GB and 8GB. The new USB drives measure about 1-inch long and one-half inch wide.

According to Verbatim, the new USB drives, with support for Windows, Mac, and Linux systems provide cross-platform compatibility and enable the transfer of files between systems. The new USB drives feature SIP technology which encapsulates all of the electronic components into a single miniaturised and sealed unit.

The 8GB drive is expected to store nearly eight hours of MPEG-1 video, about 2,000 hours of MP3 music, about 4,000 300dpi colour photos or 8GBs of personal and business files. The new USB drives can be connected through a USB 2.0 or USB 1.1 port of a desktop or notebook computer.

With support for Windows ReadyBoost, the new USB drive enables Windows Vista users to enhance system performance by utilising a portion of the device’s unused flash memory, the company claims.

The company said that the new USB drives also include password security features to protect data in a user-defined private zone, while allowing a public zone for open access and sharing of content.

The new Tuff-’N’-Tiny USB drives are available for about $30 for the 4GB drive and $50 for the 8GB drive. The complete package includes the Tuff-’N’-Tiny USB drive, pre-loaded password security software for Windows systems, a key ring lanyard and a quick start guide.
