Over the past year there has been a huge surge in demand for IoT skills, with the number of UK jobs postings for roles requiring IoT skills increasing by 70 percent.
UK jobs requiring IoT skills has risen 120 places in the ranking of IT jobs. The figures, from UK jobs statistics website, IT Jobs Watch, suggests that the growth in connected devices and implementation of smart city projects is fuelling a demand for the skills needed to boost success.
The data also identified that demand for the skills needed to make IoT projects successful was also on the rise.
Particularly, the demand for Artificial Intelligence knowledge has seen rapid growth, becoming one of the most desired skills around. The number of roles which require such skills has increased by 300 percent.
Extracting insights from data is also high on the agenda of those recruiting, with big data professionals becoming highly sought after. The number of permanent jobs citing data analytics increased by 15 percent and 62 places in the rankings.
Nicolas Chalvin, Vice President of M2m and IoT Solutions & Services at Gemalto said: “Technology moves at an incredibly fast pace and companies are continuously looking for the people with the skills to help them embrace the latest innovations.”
“As the Internet of Things is set to collect record amounts of data, organisations are now looking to their technology specialists to help ensure this is securely collected and managed.”
Enterprise data management roles also showed high demand, increasing its ranking of importance in IT jobs by 35 places, compared to 2015.
Cybersecurity is expected to play a big role in protecting businesses and consumers, as the increasing connectivity needed to build smart cities and IoT environments require secure networks.
An increase of 73 percent was identified in the amount of cybersecurity-based roles available over the last year.
Chalvin added: “Giving the growth in demand for IoT knowledge, it’s encouraging to see demand for cybersecurity skills also on the increase- showing that organisations appreciate the need to secure the data they collect.”
