Transtec AG has become one of the first to ship network attached storage and iSCSI based appliances running Microsoft’s latest Windows Storage Server 2008 operating system.
One of the benefits of the new generation appliances is that they reduce storage requirements by 30% and deliver up to five times faster data access than previous models, the company has claimed.
Microsoft’s Single Instance Storage data deduplication software cuts physical storage capacity by 30%, and in comparison to file services from a normal Windows Server 2008 data access is up to 27% faster with the new units, Transtec said.
It latest NAS and iSCSI storage servers come with four 1Gb Ethernet ports and use the low-energy Intel Nehalem processors from the Xeon 5500 series.
