Toshiba America Information Systems’ Digital Products division (DPD) has rolled out a new 3.5-inch external HDD with up to 1TB of capacity.
Toshiba said that the new external HDD features dual connectivity with USB 2.0 and eSATA ports, as well as a enhanced software application that offers data protection. In addition, the software package allows consumers to not only back up and restore selected files, but also their entire system.
Reportedly, the new external HDD comes in 640GB and 1TB capacities and operates at 5400 RPM. It is compliant with USB Implementers Forum, FCC, and (RoHS) restriction of hazardous substances directive. It also comes with pre-installed backup software.
Michael Cassidy, director of accessories and HDD marketing at Toshiba America, DPD, said: “On the heels of successfully building a 2.5-inch external HDD business, we are ready to expand our hard drive expertise into the 3.5-inch HDD market. We designed the external hard drive to provide consumers an easy-to-use back up option that not only performs above competition, but is also a stylish accessory for their PC.”
The new external HDD is expected to be priced at $130 for 640GB and $160 for 1TB. All versions of the hard drive are PC and Mac compatible and are backed by a Toshiba 3-year standard limited warranty.
