Toshiba has introduced a 128GB embedded NAND flash memory module, which is compliant with the new e-MMC standard and is designed for application in a range of digital consumer products, including smartphones, tablet PCs and digital video cameras.

According to Toshiba, the new 128GB embedded device integrates sixteen 64Gbit(4) NAND chips fabricated with its 32nm process technology and a controller to manage basic control functions for NAND applications into a small package 17 x 22 x 1.4mm.

The company claims that it has combined 64Gbit NAND chips and applied advanced chip thinning and layering and wire bonding technologies to realise individual chips that are 30 micrometers thick.

The JEDEC e-MMC V4.4 compliant interface handles functions, including writing block management, error correction and driver software and simplifies system development.

The new device offers write speeds of 21MB per sec and 46MB per sec in sequential/interactive mode and 55MB per second in sequential/no interleave mode. Toshiba offers a line-up of single-package embedded NAND Flash memories from 2GB to 128GB.
