Teradata introduces new Data Warehouse Appliance

Boosts performance by up to two-times than the previous version

By CBR Staff Writer

Teradata has released Warehouse Appliance 2580, which leverages the power of Teradata Database 13, with Intel Xeon Nehalem processors that are capable of hyper-threading.

The company claims that the new appliance offers up to two-times the performance of the previous version with the addition of one terabyte drives. It can scale from two terabytes to over 500 terabytes of user data.

The Teradata Database, combined with the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance, offers improved query optimiser performance and in-database data mining and geospatial capabilities, the company said.

According to Teradata, the new appliance is capable of co-residency, which is the technical capability to connect and work in tandem with the previous version and future versions of the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance.

In addition, data loading has been simplified with the introduction of Teradata EasyLoader, which offers customers a single-step execution to load data into the appliance. The purpose-built platform family offers customers options enabling users to optimise their data warehouse environment.

Randy Lea, vice president of products and services at Teradata, said: The Data Warehouse Appliance provides a lower cost entry point for business analytics. It also offers a seamless migration to our Active Enterprise Data Warehouse platform when customers require it.

“With the Teradata Platform Family, we are able to offer the right platform, at the right price, and give customers the confidence that they won’t outgrow the power of Teradata.
