Railinc, the provider of hosted IT services for the rail industry, has revealed that it is launching a new web-based business intelligence service. At the centre of the new service is a Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance from Teradata.

Railinc is implementing the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance to create an information portal for railroads, rail car and equipment owners, shippers and other members of the rail industry in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Initially, the new service will bring visibility of rail assets and maintenance costs, and ease waybill management, the company said.

As with all members of the Teradata Platform Family, it has as its foundation the Teradata Database. The company claimed that this allows organisations to migrate to ‘more powerful’ platforms without costly changes to load programmes, data models or underlying structures as the workload expands.

Lori Roets, senior industry consultant for transportation at Teradata, said: “Teradata’s Data Warehouse Appliance was specifically designed to help organisations like Railinc quickly roll out a data mart solution and grow with them. Railinc will now be able to provide a unified view of information for all of its customers to make better, faster decisions.”
