Big data analytics and marketing applications firm Teradata has unveiled a new solution for data lake management.

The solution, dubbed Teradata Loom 2.5, improves data lake security, accelerates data access, and allows better integration with the analytical ecosystem of the user.

Due to be available in late August, the solution claims to offer users a fine grain security model for accessing Hadoop data with automatic authentication and authorisation only for those who are allowed to view and edit particular metadata.

The solution adds support for user personalisation, enabling customers to flag important data as well as have documentation and comments.

The company said the improvements allow external applications and technologies to register and add their own measurements on Hadoop files.

Teradata executive vice president for global consulting and support services Dan Harrington said: "Data lakes are growing because of their scalability, low cost, and they provide organisations access to diverse data. However, many organisations fail to gain business value from their Hadoop investments.

"The game-changing technology in our latest release of Teradata Loom makes data lakes more secure, easier to manage, faster to access, and better integrated with the customers’ analytic ecosystem."
